Northwood Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital and deluxe boarding facility located in Grawn, just outside of Traverse City, Michigan.

As a full service veterinary hospital, Northwood Animal Hospital provides help for virtually any pet care problem.

Care includes but is not limited to:

Wellness Exams and Vaccinations - Northwood Animal Hospital provides complete physical exams and vaccinations for dogs and cats. We do not believe in over-vaccinating your pet and therefore realize that the feline distemper, canine distemper and parvovirus vaccinations are able to provide at least 3 years of protection.  We also offer vaccines such as canine and feline rabies, canine lyme disease, canine bordetella, feline leukemia (a needle and adjuvant-free vaccine that is the safest product available for your cat companion).

Blood tests can be used to determine if your pet has adequate immunity from past vaccinations. Vaccine Titer tests are available for distemper, parvovirus, and rabies vaccine immunity levels. Please discuss details of titer testing at your doctor visit.

Puppy & Kitten Health Programs - It is important to start your puppy or kitten off on the right paw with regular exams, vaccines, spay and neuter surgery, microchip placement, intestinal parasite detection and prevention, heartworm detection and prevention, and flea and tick prevention.

Senior Pet Health Programs and Preventive Health Care - Over 20% of pets over the age of 7 years have an internal medical disorder. These senior pets usually show no outward sign of illness. The only way to detect internal disorders in senior pets is to perform laboratory testing. Our Senior WellCare Plan involves a discounted cost on an Organ Profile, Complete Blood Panel, and Urinalysis for early discovery of illness in order to best manage your pet's health.

Hospitalization - In the event that your pet requires IV fluid administration or overnight assistance, we are available to care for your pet.

Internal Medicine -  The doctors at Northwood Animal Hospital are highly trained and skilled to detect internal disease in your pet.  Thanks to our comprehensive physical exams, in-house laboratory equipment (blood machines), and radiology department, we are able to detect diseases in your pet, even at the earliest stages of illness.

Spay & Neuter Surgery - The doctors at Northwood Animal Hospital are highly skilled to perform any soft tissue surgery that your pet may need.  There is nothing more important than providing comfort and safety for our surgery patients. All surgical patients receive careful anesthetic monitoring, a pain control injection pre-op, and pain medication following surgery. We use IV catheters and gas anesthesia on surgical patients to ensure the highest level of safety.

Advanced Dentistry and Surgery - We believe that good oral health is essential for a healthy, happy life.  Dental disease is the most common veterinary problem.  Your pet may have a toothache and as owners, we may never know it. Oral bacteria can spread to the heart, lungs, and kidneys causing serious internal illnesses. Delaying dental treatment will result in progressive disease, and typically more extractions which means more pain for your pet and more cost in having the disease corrected.

In-house Laboratory and Radiology - Our facilities enable us to provide immediate answers to your pets problems.  We are well equipped with a blood serum chemistry and complete blood count analyzer to help us evaluate your pets organs, electrolytes, and blood cells.  We also provide intestinal parasite checks, and microscopic evaluation of urine and biopsy samples.

Veterinary Chiropractic Care-Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM) - VOM is a healing technology that locates areas of the animal’s nervous system that have fallen out of communication with the rest of the body.  A VOM apointment allows Dr. Klabunde to give your pet a chiropractic adjustment, identify and treat all nerve root irritations,  and then massage the area to increase blood flow to affected spinal segments and allowing healing to occur and pain to subside.

Parasite Control and Deworming - Did you know that you can catch intestinal parasites (worms) from your pet?  Pets in our area are diagnosed with roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms on a daily basis.  Heartworms are also in our area, which are fatal to your pet if left untreated. We at Northwood Animal Hospital want both you and your pet to be parasite free!

Skin and Ear Treatments - Skin and Ear problems are the #1 reason why owners seek veterinary care for their pets.  Our doctors pride themselves on treating chronic skin and ear disorders by discovering an accurate diagnosis of the problem and then working with you to treat it properly. We have diagnosed skin and ear mites, resistant ear infections, greasy yeast dermatitis, specific causes for skin allergies, immune disorders, and more. If you are ready to solve your pet's chronic skin or ear problem, contact us.

Prescription Flea Control - Successful flea control has two parts to it.  Fleas must be controlled both on your pet(s) and in your pet’s environment.  Over-the-counter flea products can be extremely dangerous to your pets. We will provide you with safe and guaranteed ways to get rid of those fleas!

24-Hour Emergency Care - We are a member of the Grand Traverse Area Emergency Veterinary Group which provides 24-hour care for your pet at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Euthanasia - In the event that it is time to say goodbye to your beloved pet, we will be there for you.  Our doctors provide compassionate euthanasia for pets battling an illness that becomes too painful and the quality of life diminishes to an unacceptable level.  We assure you that your pet's remains will be handled with respect and a proper cremation performed.
