Vaccinations

Vaccinations are extremely important for your pets. They not only prevent infectious diseases in your cats and dogs, they also protect your family from these diseases. The cost for each vaccination can vary, but it is less expensive to make sure your pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations than taking your pet in for emergency treatment because they become ill. Vaccinations help your cat or dog become immune to deadly diseases and increase the pet's immune system to fight off other infectious diseases.

When Should My Pet by Vaccinated?

Puppies and kittens need to begin a series of vaccines every three to four weeks up to 16 weeks of age. If the series if started after 16 weeks of age a two-part vaccine series is recommended.

What Vaccines Does My Pet Need?

Feline vaccines include rabies and FVRCP for distemper. Canine vaccines include rabies, DHPP for distemper and DHLPP for Leptospirosis (a bacterial disease).

What if My Pet has Never Been Vaccinated?

Although we recommend vaccinating your pet from when they are a few weeks old, it is never too late to begin vaccinations.

I Adopted a Pet and Don't Know Which Vaccines My Cat or Dog Needs

Most animal shelters vaccinate cats and dogs before they are adopted out, so call the animal shelter where you adopted your pet to learn which vaccines they routinely give pets. Discuss the situation with your veterinarian on what vaccines they recommend.

Less Common Vaccinations

Many other vaccinations are available to keep your cat or dog safe and your veterinarian will be able to provide a detailed recommendation on which vaccines your pet will need.

  • Feline Leukemia
The Feline Leukemia Vaccine is recommended for cats that are often outdoors. The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) also recommends that all cats receive a series of this vaccine at least once.
  • Canine Bordetella and Canine Influenza
The Bordetella Vaccine and Canine Influenza Vaccine are recommended for dogs that are going to be in dog communal areas, including boarding, grooming, dog parks and traveling.
  • Canine Lyme
The Canine Lyme Vaccination is recommended for dogs that are in areas with high deer or tick populations.
