Obesity in Cats

By September 18, 2015Pet Talk

It is estimated that 35-40 % of all cats are obese, with a significant more number being over weight. This causes them to be

  • 4 times more likely to develop diabetes (1 in every 200 cats)
  • 5 times more likely to develop lameness, for which there are no safe medications
  • At higher risk for developing cancer (50% of pets over 10 years old die of cancer)
  • At risk of dying a premature death. Obesity will shorten a life span by at least 10 %

Most, if not all cases of obesity can be linked to diet. Call us today to help evaluate your feline friend’s diet to help them live a long and healthy life!
